Tech firms partner for small-, mid-sized firms
PHILIPPINES - With over 95% of Philippine economy composed of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), major players in the information technology (IT) industry are determined to keep an eye on this market to boost revenues amid dipping IT expenditures.
Microsoft Corp., through its partners namely Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell and IBM, launched their newest Windows Server foundation that meets the diversified needs and financial capacities of the MSMEs.
"We are aware that 92% of the businesses in the Philippines are micro-enterprises that employ less than 10 employees," said Bill Hilf, Server and Tools general manager (server and tools) at Microsoft.
As such, Microsoft introduced Windows Server 2008 Foundation that addresses the need of MSMEs for simplicity and affordability.
"The server provides a dependable and affordable technology foundation for running your business applications as well as sharing information and resources," Mr. Hilf said.
Its simple and familiar Windows interface, compatibility with most hardware devices and easy upgrade path to higher-end versions of Windows Server make it easy to manage.
"Its simplicity is one of its best assets. It does not require IT expertise especially for micro enterprises whose employees’ skills are limited to business operations," Mr. Hilf said.
The server will come pre-installed with system hardware either from Dell, HP or IBM. It can only support a maximum of 15 which fits a micro enterprise where the employees usually number around 10.
